ISPE Awards

ISPE recognizes exemplary service to the profession, peers, the organization and community by members and friends of the organization through annual Awards.   While awards have traditionally originated from the chapters, nominations for state awards can also be done by individual members.

Nominations for all state awards are due March 31 each year, and can be emailed to info@illinoisengineer.com.

Illinois Award

The Illinois Award is ISPE’s highest award given to an individual. The award is presented to an engineer who has made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, the public welfare and /or humankind.  Nominees must be a PE. The Illinois Award winner will be considered for nomination to NSPE for the NSPE award.

Young Engineer of the Year

The Young Engineer of the Year Award recognizes young ISPE members who have made outstanding contributions to the engineering profession and their communities during the early years of their careers.  The ISPE Young Engineer selected will be considered for nomination to NSPE for the NSPE Young Engineer of the Year Award.

Honorary Membership

Honorary Membership may be granted, in accordance with the ISPE Constitution, to a person who either has attained eminence in engineering or the related sciences or has rendered outstanding service to the engineering profession.  Because of the high honor bestowed by this award, it will usually be made in a special public ceremony or during the ISPE Annual Conference.

Joint Honors Award

Recognizes persons for outstanding cooperation between ISPE and other professional or civic organizations.  This award is not necessarily made annually, and is limited to one award per year.

Distinguished Service Award

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes ISPE members for their exceptional technical contributions to the engineering profession, for their contributions to their communities and to ISPE.  The winner will be considered for nomination for the NSPE Distinguished Service Award.

Private Practice Professional Development Award

The Private Practice Professional Development Award is presented to the nominated engineering firm that has made outstanding contributions to the advancement and improvement of the engineering profession through its employment policies and practices.  The ISPE firm selected will be considered for nomination to NSPE for consideration.  The purpose of the award is to recognize those firms with the best engineering employment practices and to encourage all firms to adopt progressive policies and practices.

Professional Engineering Management Award

The Professional Engineering Management Award recognizes a person in a management capacity supervising activities of engineers.  This award may be made for management in government, industry, consulting engineering, research, educational, or public service organizations.

Outstanding Chapter Member Award

Because ISPE recognizes that the individual chapters are the ‘grass roots’ of the organization, this award recognizes a chapter member for outstanding services to his/her individual chapter.  This award can be made to any chapter member who has exhibited dedication in helping the chapter grow and prosper.  The recipient may be an officer, past officer, committee chair or active member.

Illinois Government Engineer of the Year Award

The Illinois Government Engineer of the Year Award is to be awarded to an engineer employed by any state or local government agency that employs engineers.  They may also be considered by the ISPE Honors and Awards Committee for nomination to NSPE for consideration for the NSPE Professional Engineer in Government Achievement and Service in the United States (PEGASUS) Award. ISPE will consider all ISPE member nominees for recognition as the ISPE Illinois Government Engineer of the Year, using the same criteria applicable for the NSPE PEGASUS award. Nominations may be made by ISPE members, chapters or the agency employing the nominee.

Engineering Education Excellence Award

The ISPE Engineering Education Excellence award recognizes engineering faculty who have demonstrated the ability to link engineering education with professional practice.  The recipients must be licensed, ISPE members, and have a tenure-track appointment in an ABET-EAC accredited engineering program.  This award recognizes mid-career individuals who are 45 years or younger in age at the deadline for submission of the award.  Candidates may be nominated by any ISPE member, ISPE chapter or the ISPE Executive Committee, and the nominations will be considered for nomination to NSPE.

Mentor of the Year

This award is given yearly to the one member of ISPE who best exemplifies the ideal image of a mentor.
